Safety and scams to avoid

  • Overpriced street and beach taxis

    Airport, Sea Port, beach promenades

Drivers without meters quote inflated flat fares to tourists, especially for the airport-center or Krasnaya Polyana runs, sometimes 2-4x the fair price.

How to avoid it: Use the Yandex Go app for an upfront fixed price, or take the Lastochka train, instead of hailing taxis off the street.

  • Beach photo props and "free" offers

    Central and Adler beaches

Touts offer photos with animals, birds or in costumes, or hand you a souvenir as a "gift", then demand a steep payment afterwards.

How to avoid it: Politely decline upfront, do not take anything offered as free, and agree any price before posing for a photo.

  • Inflated excursion touts

    Promenades, hotel lobbies, near attractions

Street agents sell day tours (33 Waterfalls, mountains) at marked-up prices or with hidden extra fees and rushed stops at souvenir/tea shops.

How to avoid it: Book through your hotel or a reputable operator, confirm exactly what is included, and compare prices before paying cash.
