Safety and scams to avoid
Unlicensed Dive Guide at Shark Sites
Fuvahmulah harbour and informal dive operators
A small number of unlicensed guides offer tiger shark dives at below-market prices without verifying certification. Equipment may be poorly maintained and safety protocols absent. Standard market rate is USD 110-150 — anything significantly cheaper warrants scrutiny.
How to avoid it: Only dive with operators displaying PADI, SSI, or BSAC affiliation certificates. Verify the dive master's certification card and ask to inspect equipment before paying.
