Safety and scams to avoid
Unofficial Entry Point Touts
Pamukkale village entrance (south gate)
Touts near the village entrance offer to take tourists to "another free section" of the travertines or to a "better viewpoint" avoiding the official ticket office. The alternative areas are either imaginary or significantly inferior.
How to avoid it: Enter only through the official ticket gates (north or south entry). The 800 TRY ticket covers all travertine terraces and Hierapolis ruins. There is no legitimate free section.
Hotel Transport Commission Scam
Denizli bus station, Pamukkale
Touts at Denizli bus station guide arriving tourists to specific hotels claiming the traveller's chosen hotel is "closed" or "full." They earn commission from alternative hotels regardless of quality.
How to avoid it: Ignore all unsolicited assistance at the bus station. Book accommodation in advance and take only the official dolmuş (50 TRY) from Denizli to Pamukkale village. Show the driver your hotel name.
